Horror month starts tomorrow

Two Videos of two films I have reviewed on this blog.Had to make some kind of tribute

Image

A perfect sequel, that shows Hollywood how it is done.

Image
This films ends a perfect week of action films,an Indonesian Martial arts films to rival any other. A new wave of films from Asian Cinema to be proud of,that puts any American efforts to shame. Our very own Welshman Gareth Evans has directed yet another beauty that is very nearly as good as the first, and all plaudits to him for sticking with Indonesia his home, instead of taking that first pay cheque from Hollywood. This guy can direct action films like no other, that uses its own brand of martial arts called pencak silat, with some of the best, and frantic fight scenes I have seen in Quite A while. The story follows on straight after the first,in a debriefing scene Rama is asked would he consider going undercover to infiltrate a known Mob boss,to disclose all operations and uncover any police corruption. The catch is he has to spend time inside prison to befriend the Mob son's Uco who is serving minimal time. This Rama agrees to.
Whilst in prison Rama protects Uco from a suspected Hit …

A lesson In Time, Darwinism, Evolution all in 90 minutes

Image
Now I do not pretend to be a clever man,I have always swayed more to the idea of the big bang theory, the Darwin version of Evolution Always connected more with me,than any other idea. I'm not rambling on about  this for no reason at all, as it has everything to do with this film. An actual  clever film, for once that asks serious questions about the reason for our existence. Luc Besson said this film has been 10 plus years in the making so he could do all the scientific research for this movie. And it really is a fantastic film, wrongly marketed as an action film. The average human only utilises 10% of there brain capacity, what if a person could use it's brain to the full potential that is what this film is about.Poor Lucy Get's caught up in a situation in Hong Kong, thanks to her no good boyfriend. He tells her just take this brief case to the desk of this hotel, hand it to the owner and that is it. Turns out the briefcase is full of an experimental drug,to give you a high …

Just a few more action titles

Hi I have just a few more action titles to review, then I will have a month of  horror/ slasher movies, I will throw in a few sci-fi also,as most of my popular posts are of the horror and sci-fi genre. I have been building up my horror collection quite substantially this year, I have some gems, some not so good, some I have never seen but I look forward to watching. So all my Twitter followers who love horror I hope I will do you proud. A lot of sleepless nights this month, but it will be worth it,as I am a horror junkie at heart. I will follow by a month of rom com movie. Will I bollocks!!!! I wouldn't steep that low. I'm will probably be doing a Cult movie marathon, hopefully 88 films I'm looking forward to working with you. Arrow films still waiting on you but would love to review your titles,as you release some absolute gems from the past. As I said I love films especially cult, and lower end production type films, wether serious,or just a laugh, I love ya. That is why I …

Taken One Movie Too Far

Image
I will have to admit I always been slightly critical about any movie I watch, ever since an excitable teenager, managing to pass for 18 to see some dodgy horror movie. As you grow older you look at some of the films of your youth and think WTF did I like that is was rubbish. The same with films now I am even more critical especially now I review them. I so wanted this to be good,at least better than Taken 2 or Tame down 2 as I call it.
Bryan Mills is back again!!! to finalise the Trilogy, this time it is personal they have taken his goldfish. Sorry being pedantic, but you get my idea. The whole poster says It Ends Here, and I am thinking a carry on from the second movie, another son wants justice for his Dad,Brothers,Cousins,so he comes from Russia,or Ukraine or wherever to kill Bryan. No it is nothing like that,we have his ex wife killed,so Bryan will take the rap for murder, her husband wants this to happen to claim her life insurance to pay off a psycho who he owns money too.Knowing of Bry…

A little rant

I love films all films, small films, big budget blockbusters. Indie films. The one thing that does annoy me is the many sequels, especially if they eventually tarnish the original. I bet your wondering why, then I shall tell you, only two films that have really blown me away in the last few years. They are Kick Ass, and the original Taken film. Now Kick Ass 2 was okay, nothing groundbreaking, just a more violent rehash of the original. The thing that has really pissed me off is the Taken franchise the first was masterful, different, a middle age man kicking the shit out of everything to protect his family. Then a sequel had to be made, but a more friendly approach to get more bums on seats. Did it work? Maybe almost, at least it had some logic to the previous film, even if it was watered down.
I have spent the last two hours watching Taken 3, now minus all the plot holes, that we all turn a blind eye too. We have a third film that has no connection to the other two, apart from Liam Neeson, …

My Favourite colour film franchise in a while

Image
I haven't been a fan of Bruce Willis in quite a while I have not liked any of is films in the last few years.
Don't get me started on the dreadful Die Hard pretend one to be that was a Good Day To Die Hard, or A Good Time To Call It A Day.
Now both these kind of past me by,the first in 2010,the second 2013,but being bored one night RED was on TV so I watched it not expecting much. But I bloody loved it. The Idea of ageing Hitmen, and Woman is brilliant. Where does the Red Come  from.
Retired and.
Extremely.
Dangerous. Although Bruce is showing his age a bit in this film, it is perfect for him,and he is not taking himself too seriously, and the age thing is always referenced in this film, they are not pretending to be youngsters but all are playing their respected ages. But with age come knowledge, experience, skills, that a younger person would
not have a clue. That is the whole point of these movies. I'm not going into the story lines of both films,as they both follow the sa…

One of the best Graphic Novels put to screen

Image
I know a lot of you are going to say why review a film that is now almost 5 years old now, well the reason why it is probably the best action film,to arrive from a comic book series in a while. And pisses over the recent Marvel efforts.
It has probably the best ensemble cast put together in quite some time. The fact that the actors at the time were  not all mainstream actors, is why this film worked.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, straight out of another comic book role, the fantastic underrated Watchmen, Zoe Saldana who I could watch all day on screen, stunningly gorgeous in any role.more famous for playing Captain Uhura from the recent Star Trek franchise. Idris Alba who is probably the finest, and most handsome Black man working on British screens, and Hollywood at the moment, who is so well liked a campaign was actually started for him to be the first Black James Bond, after Daniel Craig's retirement. My favourite character in this has to be Chris Evans who plays Jenson in the movie,an actor w…

Not a bad film for a big guy

Image
My hopes wasn't running to high on this film, but once again a decent price in a supermarket tempted me. A very good looking trailer on Youtube convinced me to take the plunge.I will be honest like I was the other day on Pound Of Flesh, my expectations wasn't very high on this film. The last time I watched A Steven Seagal film was the 2005 effort that was Submerged  kind of Deja Vu.Both starring Steven Seagal and our very own Vinnie Jones. As I said my expectations weren't that high, but I was proved wrong again twice in a week now. Yes this is no masterpiece the acting is average, but I kind of expected that. We have a half decent action thriller made better by the brilliant Byron Mann who plays the ass kicking karate Hit man Chi, followed closely by Mr Seagal who reprises his role as John Alexander.  Now I'm a film reviewer and even I did not know that this was a Sequel to his 2014 film A Good Man,yes I'm admitting that I did not know that,I thought this was a stand…

I was going to review a film tonight.

My apologies once again I was all set to write my review tonight for Absolution, turned my faithful laptop on and couldn't log on or get into google on my web browser. Malware flashing up,spent the last 3 and a half hours trying to clean it. Malware bytes is still running now. I don't want to log into my account till computer is clean. A hard lesson learnt, that for an easy few hours this afternoon I allowed my daughter to play online playing bloody minecraft on different servers. Computer is full of bloody malware hopefully it will be cleaned out. Malware bytes is fantastic normally, but have  to do a deep clean,as I need my laptop for my work. So I'm using my iPad to write this. I can say I did enjoy the film thought so touch wood I'll be running tomorrow. Already written review, just need laptop for pictures. So first thing tomorrow it should be on.

Monday 27th July new releases UK

Here we have all DVD and bluray releases for this week. As they feel they could be part of the French resistance.  We have the fantasy film Seventh Son, starring Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore, why so much talent staring in such a film, I might review it I may not, being a main screen release title I will see. We also have an other action film from the Jason Statham camp, and that is Wild Card, extended edition. He is reunited with Simon West the Expendable's 2 director for a story about a Las Vegas bodyguard, who has a serious gambling addiction. Image
I would like to say a massive thank you to all you fabulous people out there, Male or Female,Boys Or Girls, Gay or straight whoever you are, a fantastical  thank you for taking time out of your busy lives to read my blog, I hit my first target milestone today, and you do not know how happy that makes me feel. The fact that one person reads this is brilliant, but as I said I set a Target in my first month and I  have well exceeded that amount I'm SO HAPPY so a BIG thank you one and all,you guys are great and I promise I will keep this going. Please leave any comments ,or any films you would like my opinion on,as I said all my reviews are honest, and I'm not swayed in any direction by any company, if I like I will recommend,if I don't I won't, but I would Never be mean that is not me. Friends have told me to be more bitchy and diss everything, well I don't do that in real life. So why start on here. So what you read is me and only me.
Thanks for reading Rob.

An above average Nicholas Cage film

Image
I'm not to sure about you but I no longer get excited or even watch Nicholas Cage films any more as he seems to have one out every month. Apparently to pay for a costly divorce he takes on any film role now, purely for finance reasons. Yes he has been in some turkey's but remember he is an Oscar winning actor, and he is a good actor. He just chooses bad films. Even the films he stars in are usually low grade, smaller budgeted films,he still always puts a decent effort in. After all as I said I do rate him as an actor.
What we have here is a film by producer Nicholas Winding, the director of Drive, and Only God Forgives. And Director Paul Schrader, the screenwriter of Taxi Driver, also Director of Cat People, American Gigolo  and Dominum the Exorcist prequel. What we have is a very tight thriller about revenge and redemption. When a younger Evan Lake is taking hostage in the early nighties by a terrorist group,he refuses to give up his CIA status. He is tortured, losing half of his …

Schwarzenegger at his grittiest and best.

Image
I know that this film is well over a year old now,but as I'm doing action films this week thought this would be fit in quite nicely. I reviewed Van Damme the other day,I have Segal's Absolution to review. So I thought I would slot this in too. It is Directed by David Ayer  who directed the fab End Of Watch, the recent Fury with Brad Pitt, and he is also the fantastic writer of Training Day.
This film certainly shows a darker side to Schwarzenegger normal characters, he plays John Breacher a head of D.E.A enforcement team. Who are all currently under investigation for a messed up drug hit. When millions of dollars of drug cartel money goes missing, they are all being watched by the FBI and the Internal Affairs. When the investigation proves they are all innocent, the team is allowed back together once more. His team is made up of Sam Worthington, Monster Murray, his wife Mireille Enos, Lizzy, Terrance Howard as Julius 'sugar' Joe Manganiello as Grinder, and Josh Holloway of L…

The Best Bond Film Never made

Image
I never thought that Matthew Vaughn could better the fantastic Kick-Ass, but he has. After the disappointment that was X-Men First Class,he has excelled himself with this. A blast from the past film that gives a sly nudge nudge wink wink to past English spy films. That resembles a cross between The Avengers on speed, with a mix of Roger Moores wit and charm in 70's James Bond, with gadgets galore. As the recent Bond franchise has gone soooo serious that Matthew Vaughn actually said that what he wanted this film to be very early Bondish, very English, very witty with an over the top villian we have not seen in many a year. Now I have always liked Colin Firth as an actor, I can't say that Iv'e enjoyed his choice of films over the years. But why oh why was he not even thought of as Bond in the nighties,he is brilliant, would have knocked spots of Pierce Brosnan.                                                                                                                        …

I have Made a decision today.

Hi and thank you for coming back to my blog, I have had some great news today, a company I contacted only the other day has got back to me. That is out of many I can tell you,so hopefully I can work alongside them, review their titles new and old,yes it is not a massive company, but a smaller one in which I set up this blog for. To promote smaller titles that get so criminally overlooked in a saturated market of blockbusters. Yes I still will keep everyone informed of all new releases, but a majority of this blog will be dedicated to smaller titles.
I can tell you now the only two companies to respond back to me so far, is 88 Films, and Fox Searchlight pictures. And I have contacted a lot I can Tell you. So I would like to thank you both, also I would like to express my disappointment in a certain Supermarket, where I buy most of my films from, in which I told them, thanked them personally for a great price war when it came to DVD sales. I even asked them if they could maybe discount them…

Bloody hell this guy from Downton is Bloody dangerous

Image
This was one film I saw the trailer and thought this film is going to be good, and my goodness was I right it. It was kick ass. Now I didn't even know who Dan Stevens was,I know he was British, I know he was an actor, and I knew he starred in a little TV show called Downton Abbey, but being a self respected male, I had never watched that show,or even plan too. Rumors started about this film late last year,I can remember seeing an interview on a breakfast TV station with Dan,but they were more interested in the film he did, which was Night At The Museum 3. So I did miss the limited cinema release, but was determined to catch it on DVD. I was not disappointed at all, he was brilliant in this, and so convincing as an Ex war vet who wants to visit a friends family, who sadly died,to pass on his condolences at first hand. This family the Petersons warm to him,and why not? he is charming, helpful, and generally a nice decent young man.As I said this family takes him in and everybody loves him,…

Gina Carano please star in a film you are suited too, your brilliant, and gorgeous, don't let Hollywood ruin you.

Image
I really had high hopes for this film, a film where if you see the trailer you see the film. The film is not bad,but just not very good.
Gina Carano has to be one of the most gorgeous woman out there, who is also deadly in real life, A Muay Thai trained, and MMA champion. Voted most influential women in 2008,by ESPN. She has retired since and became an actress, but why have I seen her in two of the most disappointing films in recent years, Haywire should have been brilliant, but was actually let down by bad directing by Steven Soderbergh, even a cast with Michael Douglas, Ewan McGreggor, Channing Tatum, and the excellent Michael Fassbender couldn't save this mess of a film. The worst thing was, that none of it was Gina's fault, she still was brilliant in it,but she is being let down by bad casting agents. The same is with In The Blood, not a bad looking film on script, but why not let Gina do what she can do best,,and that is kick ass, rather than having her a gun toting heroine, she…

A quiet day today sorry

I have no films to review today, as today has been a family day, with the school holidays upon us, it has been Dad duty today. But I will be back online running tomorrow.I had heard some news today that the film Sharknado 3 was streaming on the internet, and the success was so that the internet crashed. So it is not obviously Kim Kardasian's ass that can down the internet but a low grade B-movie about flying sharks in tornadoes. To be honest I have not seen the previous two,and put a tweet out to say was I a bad person for not seeing them? I did get a response back and luckily I was not put out to pasture, but was told by some that I was very lucky lol. I did get three more films today one being the slasher Girlhouse, and the horror The Ayslum. I have got loads of reviews to put on though including The Guest, In The Blood, Absolution with Steven Segal,Dying of The Light with Nicolas Cage, The Kidnapping of Freddie Heineken,Taken 3 and Kingman The Secret Service. Followed will probably …

A few days to kill

Image
I hope you all don't mind but my next few reviews will be of the action variety, I have loads of films I have brought in the last few months, and this was one of them. A cracking film from 2014 from acclaimed French director Luc Besson . I loved in the 90's La Femme Nikita, which was remade with Brigitte Fonda called the Assassin . The best hitman film ever made period and that is Leon with a brilliant standout performance from a 13 year old Natalie Portman, and apart from Black Swan I have not seen her in anything better. Sorry going off on a tangent then. He then directed the fantastic lavish the 5th Element, which is in my top 5 all time sci-fi movies. He then went off the boil a bit, and took a role as Producer, with his writing talents also created the Transporter trilogy, From Paris with Love, and the recent Taken franchise.
This film I wanted as soon as I saw the trailer it was a Three Days To Kill, starring Kevin Costner and Amber Heard. I loved Costner 90's films and a…

They stole his kidney, now he wants it back

Image
It is a lovely Wednesday afternoon, and instead of enjoying the outdoors, I decided to watch a film, from an actor who I vowed years ago I would not watch another of his films.
That actor is Jean Claude Van Damme, after the abysmal In Hell all those years ago I have not seen another of his standalone films.Even  friends have recommended films such as the Sheperd, Enemies Closer, The comedy Welcome to the Jungle, even the recent Universal Soldier films have been getting okay
reviews. So a film came out two weeks ago,a low budget film from him once again, called Pound Of Flesh. Of Cause I had never heard of it,so I googled it and. I found the trailer on YouTube. Once again yes the trailer looked quite decent, but with these types of films they usually are, until you actually watch them, and find the trailer is literally the film, if that makes sense. So I put the film in ,expectations very low, to my surprise it was a bloody good film,so good it almost knocked me backwards. The story is …
